Opera Theatre to Present 'The Telephone' and 'The Child and the Spells'
Lee University Opera Theatre will present “The Telephone” by Gian Carlo Menotti and “The Child and the Spells” by Maurice Ravel for three performances on Feb. 27, 28 and Mar. 1 at 7:30 p.m., and Mar. 2 at 3 p.m. in the Dixon Center.
“The Telephone” is a comical opera that was first presented at the Heckscher Theater in New York City in 1947. Lighthearted and entertaining, it has since been a popular piece for amateur and professional opera companies alike.
“The Child and the Spells” is part ballet, part pantomime, and part opera. The brief overture with its thin, chamber music style sets the general tone and atmosphere for almost everything to follow.
Lee University’s Opera Theatre is directed by James Frost, assistant professor of music at Lee since 2007. Prior to Lee, Frost was a resident in Germany for 20 years where he gained professional experience at various opera houses such as the Stadttheatre Hildesheim in Germany and the Tiroler Landestheater in Austria.
Both operas will be performed in English.
Tickets for the performance may be reserved or purchased at the Dixon Center Box Office by calling 423-614-8343. The box office is open Monday through Saturday and one hour before each performance. Tickets are $8 for adults, $5 for seniors, and $3 for students. Seating is limited.
