Opera Theatre to Present Opera Scenes
The Lee University Opera Theatre will present Opera Scenes under the direction of James Fro st on Sunday, April 11, at 3 p.m. in Squires Recital Hall in the Humanities Center.
The performance is the final project of Lee’s Opera Theatre class. It will include various scenes and solos spanning the opera repertoire, including “Carmen,” “Susannah,” “Marriage of Figaro,” “Baby Doe,” among others.
Every participant of Opera Theatre will sing at least one solo role in one of the scenes.
“The participants of each scene are challenged to stage their own scene with help from myself and other participants using their own creative impulses, which is a great learning tool,” said Frost, an associate professor of music at Lee.
Opera Theatre was started in the spring of 1998 by the now retired professor, Tony Deaton, as a workshop. It has grown into a production organization performing a Musical Revue in the fall semester, a fully staged opera from both standard and less traditional repertoire in February, and an Opera Scenes program during the spring semester.
