Opera Theatre to Present Musical Revue
Lee University’s Opera Theatre, along with artistic director James Frost, will present its fall Musical Revue, consisting of musical theatre scenes from various well-known musicals, on Sunday, Nov. 22 in the Squires Recital Hall at 3 p.m.
The scenes will come from musicals such as “Oklahoma,” “My Fair Lady,” “Cinderella,” and Leonard Bernstein’s “Candide.” All members of the Lee Opera Theatre Ensemble will perform the scenes.
“With a family-friendly atmosphere, the show will be enjoyed by all ages,” said Frost.
Written by Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II, “Oklahoma” describes the love triangle between Laurey, a headstrong farm girl, cowboy Curly, and farm hand Jud. Tensions rise between the two men and capture the interest of the whole town.
“My Fair Lady” won the 1957 Tony Award for Best Musical. The play begins when Eliza Doolittle takes an offer from Henry Higgins to speak properly and raise her status in the community.
A Rodgers and Hammerstein musical originally written for television, “Cinderella” is based on the classic fairy tale. Cinderella is able to face her three stepsisters with the help of her fairy godmother.
The Musical Revue will be accompanied by staff member, Rachel Appleton, on piano.
The performance is a free, non-ticketed event, and open to the public.
