Lee University’s Department of History, Political Science and Humanities will host Dr. David Nichols for a guest lecture on Thursday, Nov. 14 at 6 p.m. in the Johnson Lecture Hall of the Humanities Building.

Nichols’ lecture, titled “Reforming Congress: A Constitutional Approach,” will address Congress’ complaints about a constantly decreasing amount of power due to the executive branch of the government.

According to Nichols, any loss of power in Congress results from them not using their constitutional rights. In the lecture, Nichols argues that the only way for Congress to regain its constitutional pull is to revert to old, time-tested processes.

Nichols is an associate professor of political science and director of the political science graduate program at Baylor University. He specializes in American politics, especially constitutional law, the presidency, and separation of powers theory. He also studies politics in literature and politics in film.

Prior to Baylor, Nichols served at Montclair State University, and has also taught at Fordham University, the University of Virginia, and Catholic University. He has twice served terms as a program officer for the National Endowment for the Humanities, Division of Research and Programs.
