Lee University’s annual Music Camp for rising ninth graders through rising college freshmen will be held June 22-27. The camp gives students in all areas the opportunity to study with Lee University faculty and professional musicians, many of whom are members of symphony orchestras, performing jazz groups and other professional organizations.

Students will participate in ensembles and study music theory and music history, as well as specialized areas. Camp staffers, many of whom are Lee music students and alumni, provide peer support.

“Lee’s Music Camp gives students opportunities to receive high-level academic training and perform with ensembles,” said Laud Vaught, music camp administrator. “It also gives them the opportunity to interact with musical peers and excellent faculty.”

Music Camp students have the opportunity to pick from several tracks of study: the Music Lovers Track (for a general music experience), the College Prep Track (for high school upperclassmen and rising college students wishing to study music in college), the Worship Leader Track (for those interested in music ministry), the Jazz Track (for those interested in jazz), and the Piano Track (for College Prep Track pianists).

After a week of study in their respective areas, all students participating in Music Camp perform in concerts open to the community. Ensemble areas include choir, piano ensemble, band, and chamber strings.

The choir and band concert will be Saturday, June 27 at 10 a.m. in the Dixon Center. The jazz concert and worship leader service will be Friday, June 26 at 7:30 p.m. in the Great Room of the Science & Math Complex.

The cost for Music Camp is $495 plus a $50 registration fee. The camp includes housing in Lee residence halls and meals in the dining hall, but a non-residential option for local students is available at a discounted rate. Any students who participated in their respective All-States will be awarded a $250 scholarship.
