Murray to Deliver Commencement Address

Dr. Debbie Murray, vice president for academic affairs at Lee University, will deliver the commencement address at the school’s summer commencement ceremony, on Saturday, July 27 in the Conn Center.

Joining the Lee faculty in 1980, Murray served in the Helen DeVos College of Education for 33 years, until her recent appointment as VP. In addition to being a distinguished professor of education, she has served as dean of the HDCOE, department chair, director of Teacher Education Programs and director of Graduate Programs in Education.

In 1997 Murray was named Lee’s Alumnus of the Year by the Department of Natural Sciences and Mathematics, and in 2005, she received Lee’s Excellence in Advising Award.

Murray was born in Laurel, Miss., and has been a Cleveland resident for most of her life. After graduating from Cleveland High School, Murray attended Lee where she earned her BS in Mathematics. She later earned her MS in Special Education and her EdD in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville.

She is married to Danny Murray, the director of Voices of Lee. They have four children and three grandchildren.

Graduation exercises will begin on Friday, July 26, with a hooding ceremony at 4:30 p.m. in the Lee Chapel, followed by the commissioning service at 6:30 p.m. in the Conn Center. Commencement will take place Saturday morning at 10:30 a.m.
