Lee University’s Mock Trial Team ended its competition season at the American Mock Trial Association (AMTA) Regional Competition last month. The event took place at Wofford College in Spartanburg, South Carolina.

“As president of Mock Trial this year I have watched my team work incredibly hard to learn and grow as both teammates and individuals,” said Sydney Taylor, senior political science major. “This season was an excellent way to end my Mock Trial experience, and I can’t wait to see them continue to succeed in the fall.”

Camden Greene, junior accounting major, won both Outstanding Witness and Attorney Awards.

This year’s Mock Trial team includes Paul Atherton, Rebecca Bays, Shauna Drinnon, Sydney Fant, Shelby Flannigan, Aidan Giavelli, Greene, Lily Griffith, Matt Hoffmeister, Drew Johnson, Cassie Olson, Seth Palmer, Clara Politino, David Steinmetz, Jeremiah Ruff, and Taylor.

“Our Mock Trial Team finished another strong season this past fall,” said Dr. Mark Scully, assistant professor of political science. “We had a young team this year, and they demonstrated wonderful personal growth and impressive adaptability in some difficult circumstances. I think that the work we put in this year will be paying dividends for the next several years!”

Though the season is finished, Lee’s Mock Trial Team will host a showcase Wednesday, April 5 at 6 p.m. in the Humanities Center lecture hall. The showcase will use materials acquired from this year to simulate a court case in front of an audience and demonstrate what the team’s competitions look like.
