Percussion ensemble concert

Lee University will host “Marimba Madness,” a percussion studio concert, on Sunday, March 26, at 3 p.m. in Squires Recital Hall, located in Lee’s Humanities Center.

This event will feature percussion students of Dr. Andy Harnsberger, assistant professor of music and percussion coordinator at Lee, and Dr. Caitlin Jones, part-time faculty in the School of Music.

The concert will include works by composers Astor Piazzolla, Claude Debussy, Paul Smadbeck, Keiko Abe, and Harnsberger.

The student performers are Ben Atkinson, William Bayse, Avery Brokish, Ellis Byrd, Easton Christopher, Madeline Fowler, Meliza Reyes, Cameron Shattuck, and Kyle Wilson.

In addition to teaching and directing the percussion ensemble at Lee, Harnsberger is active as a freelance percussionist and recitalist. He is also a performing artist and clinician for Malletech Instruments and Mallets, Remo Drum Heads, Sabian Cymbals, Ltd., and Grover Pro Percussion.

Jones, an active performer and educator, has presented soloist recitals across the Southeast United States. She was noted as an “Emerging Leader” by the Percussive Arts Society in 2016 and is a member of the Percussive Arts Society Health and Wellness Committee.

“Marimba Madness” is free, non-ticketed, and open to the public. Livestream viewing will also be available at leeu.live.
