Lessons and Carols to Take Place Thursday

Events, Music, News

Lee University’s School of Theology & Ministry and School of Music will present Lessons and Carols on Thursday, Dec. 8 at 7:30 p.m. in the Lee University Chapel. This annual event is an interactive service that unites biblical lessons with Christmas music.

“There is something wonderful about hearing the advent scriptures alongside beautiful music that brings the story of Christmas to life,” said Dr. William Green, School of Music dean. “Many in our community have found this event to be the perfect way to focus on the marvelous gift of God’s son at this special time of year.”

Faculty from the School of Theology & Ministry will read nine lessons from the Old and New Testaments that traditionally tell the fall of humanity, the promise of salvation, and the birth of Jesus. Each reading will be followed by a related carol or musical selection performed by Lee Chorale, directed by Green. Guests will also be invited to join in singing Christmas hymns.

“What a joy to experience the sounds of Christmas again this year with excellent music and readings from Scripture within the beautiful setting of the Lee Chapel,” said Dr. Terry Cross, School of Theology & Ministry dean. “For over a decade, the School of Music and the School of Theology & Ministry have teamed up to offer this extraordinary Christmas experience that brings this season to life.”

Lessons and Carols is free, non-ticketed, and open to the public.
