LeeU Theatre to Present “Gaslight”

Lee University Theatre will present “Gaslight” by Steven Dietz, based on the original play by Patrick Hamilton, on Feb. 13-14 and 19-21 at 7:30 p.m. in the Buzz Oates Black Box Theater.
Directed by Anna Marie Brendel, assistant professor of theatre, the production presents a fickle truth for both characters and audiences alike. Full of mystery and double-crosses, with undertones of Sherlock Holmes, “Gaslight” emphasizes the injustice of emotional and psychological abuse.
“‘Gaslight’ is a fascinating study on psychology and relationships,” said Brendel. “The original term ‘gaslighting’ was derived from this very work, the original play by Patrick Hamilton, and Lee Theatre is excited to bring this conversation to the forefront of the younger generation that may use the term yet not know its true meaning or origin. It’s a reminder to be careful what you may choose to blindly follow, as not everything is as it may seem.”
The cast includes Lee students Ainsley Donahue as Bella Manningham, Harper Johnson as Jack Manningham, Nolan Mann as Sergeant Rough, Holly Shimmel as Elizabeth, and Sydney Kruger as Nancy.
The production crew includes Lee students Sarah England as stage manager and Addie Blair, Autumn Blanton, and Carrie Partin as run crew.
Tickets are available online through Eventbrite or at the Lee Theatre Box Office beginning the week prior to the show and one hour before curtain time.
The box office and Buzz Oates Black Box Theater are located in Lee University’s Communication Arts Building at the corner of Central Avenue and Church Street.
“Gaslight (Dietz)” is presented by arrangement with Concord Theatricals on behalf of Samuel French, Inc. www.concordtheatricals.com.
