LeeU Theatre and SOM to Present “Hello, Dolly!”

Music, News, Theatre

Lee University Theatre and Lee University School of Music will present “Hello, Dolly!,” with music and lyrics by Jerry Herman and based on the book by Michael Stewart, April 10-12 and April 16-18. The show will be directed by Dr. Christine Williams, with music direction by Drs. Chery and Ron Brendel.

“Another edition in our continued collaborations with the School of Music, the theatre program is thrilled to work on a classic of musical theatre,” said Williams, chair for Lee’s Department of Communication Arts and professor of theatre. “It is always a joy to bring together such talented students on our stage and to work with a great group of artists from our faculty, staff, and community members.”

The musical follows the romantic and comic exploits of Dolly Gallagher Levi, turn-of-the-century matchmaker and “woman who arranges things.” The story is suited for audiences of all ages and is filled with humor, romance, dancing, and singing.

“‘Hello, Dolly!’ is a light-hearted musical, full of memorable tunes and dances, an absolute audience-pleaser,” said Dr. Ron Brendel, director of graduate studies in music and professor of voice. “At the same time, it’s a story of resilience, coming back to vitality after loss, a reassessment of what matters in the end, and the value of being connected with other people, packaged in an absolutely entertaining story with lots of laughs!”
