Wind Ensemble to Present Spring Concert

Events, Featured, Music, News

Lee University’s Wind Ensemble will perform on Monday, Feb. 7, at 7:30 p.m. in the Conn Center on Lee’s campus. The concert will be directed by Dr. David Holsinger, professor of music at Lee and conductor of the ensemble.

The performance will include band music from composers such as Charles Ives, Peter Meechan, Václav Nelhýbel, Sergei Prokofiev, and John Philip Sousa, among others.

The Lee University Wind Ensemble is committed to the highest level of performance of instrumental ensemble literature for winds and percussion and performs for special concerts on the Lee campus throughout the year.

The Monday evening performance will be a duplication of the All-East Senior Clinic in Gatlinburg, Tennessee. This will be the Lee Wind Ensemble’s third trip to the invite-only event, where they will present a concert for 650 high school participants that make up four bands, Symphony Orchestra, and String Orchestra at the annual event. Along with the auditioned musicians from eastern Tennessee, approximately 150 directors will be in attendance.

“The Wind Ensemble was also invited to last year’s Clinic, but the pandemic caused its cancellation,” said Holsinger. “Barring any unforeseen circumstances, our musicians are very excited to make this trip. I also hope to see many of our home audience members in the Conn Center for our February concert.”

In addition to his university teaching, Holsinger spends time as a guest clinician, composer, and conductor throughout the United States. He has appeared as a guest composer/conductor at over 60 major universities and colleges and has had the opportunity to guest conduct high school honor bands in 37 states. He has also received numerous major awards, such as a two-time American Bandmaster’s Association Ostwald Award for his compositions and the Phi Beta Mu National Bandmaster of the Year award.

Holsinger received his Doctor of Musical Arts from University of Kansas, an honorary doctorate from the Gustavus Adolphus College, his Master of Arts from Central Missouri State University, and his Bachelor of Music Education from Central Methodist College.

The Monday Wind Ensemble concert is free, non-ticketed, and open to everyone. It will also be available via livestream at https://leeu.live.
