Lee’s School of Music to Present Wind Ensemble Concert
Lee University’s Wind Ensemble will perform on Tuesday, Nov. 16, at 7:30 p.m. in the Conn Center on Lee’s campus. The concert will be directed by Dr. David Holsinger, professor of music at Lee and conductor of the ensemble.
The evening’s performance will feature a variety of international original works for band, including Ralph Vaughn Williams’ “Tocatta Marziale,” John Philip Sousa’s lesser known “The Crusader,” Alfred Reed’s exciting “Gallop,” and Howard Hanson’s “Chorale and Alleluia,” a Holsinger favorite.
The concert will also feature music by Larry Daehn, Holsinger, Czechoslovakian composer Vaclav Nehlybel, and Russian composer Sergei Prokofiev.
The Lee University Wind Ensemble is committed to the highest level of performance of instrumental ensemble literature for winds and percussion. It is a non-travelling ensemble that performs for special concerts on the Lee campus throughout the year.
In addition to his university teaching, Holsinger spends time as a guest clinician, composer, and conductor throughout the United States. He has appeared as a guest composer/conductor at over 60 major universities and colleges and has had the opportunity to guest conduct high school honor bands in 37 states. He has also received numerous major awards, such as a two-time American Bandmaster’s Association Ostwald Award for his compositions and the Phi Beta Mu National Bandmaster of the Year Award.
Holsinger received his Doctor of Musical Arts from University of Kansas, an honorary doctorate from the Gustavus Adolphus College, his Master of Arts from Central Missouri State University, and his Bachelor of Music Education from Central Methodist College.
“This will be a busy week for our Wind Ensemble members,” said Holsinger. “It begins with our fall concert, followed by hosting the university’s High School Honor Band, and then performing as part of a ‘collage’ concert for the visiting musicians, which is open to the public.”
The Tuesday Wind Ensemble concert is free, non-ticketed, and everyone is welcome. It will also be available via livestream at livestream.com/leeu.
