Lee University U-Church to Host Gungor

News

The U-Church season at Lee University will conclude with a live performance by Grammy-nominated Gungor on Sunday, April 14, at 7:30 p.m. in the Conn Center.

Back by popular demand, Dove Award winner Gungor returns to Lee to present a unique brand of worship, complete with streaks of pop, indie and folk influence.

“This is the third time we have had Michael Gungor and band on campus since 2008. They are no doubt a campus favorite,” said U-Church Director Josh York. “Student response to Gungor has been great, and we are pleased to have them close the 2013 U-Church schedule.”

Gungor was formed in 2003 under the original name “The Michael Gungor Band” and has since released multiple albums such as “All I Need is Here” and “Beautiful Things.” Their latest album “Ghosts Upon the Earth” was somewhat inspired by the allegory by C.S. Lewis titled The Great Divorce.

“Music doesn’t have to fit the mold to move people’s hearts,” says Michael Gungor. “And at the end of the day, that’s really what we’re trying to do. We’re trying to make honest music that opens people’s hearts.”

According to Christianity Today, “Gungor pushes the boundaries of modern worship music in all the right ways. ‘Ghosts Upon the Earth’ proves worship music can be experimental and still accessible.”
