Lee University Names Al Hartgraves 2012 Honorary Alumnus of the Year
On Saturday, Nov. 3, Lee University named Dr. Al Hartgraves 2012
Honorary Alumnus of the Year. The award was presented by Lee
President Dr. Paul Conn during this year’s homecoming
festivities.
Hartgraves has been a member of Emory University’s Goizueta
Business School faculty since 1980 and has held several
administrative posts at Goizueta including Acting Dean, Senior
Associate Dean, Assistant Dean and Director of MBA Programs. He was
named Professor Emeritus in 2009.
Hartgraves has conducted executive education programs for
Fortune 500 companies such as Lockheed, The Home Depot, and
BellSouth, and served as a consultant on the Enron Bankruptcy
Examination.
He has published over 50 scholarly and professional articles
that have appeared in The Accounting Review and other leading
accounting journals. One of his
publications, Management Accounting: A Strategic Management
Approach, has been described as “a textbook that helped
redefine accounting pedagogy.”
In addition to this award, Hartgraves received the University
Scholar Teacher Award from Emory University and was selected by
Emory students as Distinguished Educator on seven occasions. The
Georgia Society of Certified Public Accountants recognized
Hartgraves as the Accounting Educator of the Year in 2003.
Prior to Goizueta Business School, Hartgraves served as an
associate professor of accounting at Lee beginning in 1973. He also
held the position of Lee’s Chair of the Department of Business from
1974-1975 and was appointed the Dean of the Division of Arts and
Sciences from 1975-1977.
