Lee University Chamber Strings to Present “World of Pops” Concert

News

The Lee University Chamber Strings, an all-string student ensemble from Lee’s School of Music, will present the annual Chamber Strings Concert on Friday, Oct. 12 at 7:30 p.m., at the Church Street Annex.

“It is going to be an unbelievable evening of true variety of light and easy listening music,” said Xiaoqing Yu, director of the Chamber Strings and associate professor of music at Lee. “It will be like going to a Broadway show in New York City right in your backyard in Cleveland.”

Chamber Strings will perform a pops oriented program including “Caro Nome” from Verdi’s opera “Rigoletto,” sung by Rachel Cook, Gershwin’s all-time favorite, “I Got Rhythm,” sung by Rachel Greene, and a piece from the “Bollywood Maharaja.”

Also featured in the program is music influenced by movie favorites, South American dances, the Samba and the Tico Tico. There will also be a Tango performed by euphonium soloist Jordan Mulkey, and a one-bow concerto by violinists Eben Ting, Lacey Thwing, and Weilun Xu.

The concert is free of charge and open to the public. A reception will be held in the lobby after the concert.
