Lee to Host Empty Bowls Fundraiser for Local Food Bank Friday

Lee University’s Department of Communication Arts will host the Empty Bowls Fundraiser to support Second Harvest Food Bank of Cleveland on Friday, April 17, from 5-6:30 p.m. in the Mayfield Gallery on Lee’s campus.
Tickets are $25 and include a handcrafted ceramic bowl of the guest’s choice and a meal of soup and salad. Tea, coffee, and water will also be provided. Limited tickets are available and can be purchased at eventbrite.com/Empty Bowls or at the door with cash or check, while supplies (food and bowls) last.
Empty Bowls is centered around the simple act of sharing a meal to raise awareness about food insecurity and is part of a national grassroots effort that brings together artists, schools, and community members to fight hunger through creativity and compassion.
“Our students have been working since last fall to create each bowl from start to finish,” said Victoria Phillips, assistant professor of art at Lee. “It’s a meaningful opportunity for them to use their creative work to give back, connecting art, service, and community in a tangible way. Guests will leave with a handcrafted bowl to remember that many in our community still face empty bowls each day.”
All proceeds from the event will go directly to Second Harvest. Mayfield Gallery is located at 1801 Magnolia Avenue NE.
