Lee University’s Cultural Diversity Committee will recognize International Women’s Day (IWD) on March 12-14.

IWD is a chance for students to learn about other cultures and recognize the inspiration and impact made by women from those cultures. Lee began honoring the day in 2010.

On Tuesday, March 12, Assistant Professor of Accounting Ingrid Hart will speak during chapel in the Dixon Center at 10:40 a.m.

Hart is involved in the National Association of Female Executives, Beta Alpha Psi Accounting Honor Society and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority. She is also a unit leader for the Girl Scouts of America. Hart has received many awards for her achievements including the National Collegiate Minority Leadership Award, the Key Player Management Award from Powertel and Who’s Who Among International Business Leaders.

Women’s rights, achievements and current inequalities are among the topics that will be observed on IWD.

To conclude the IWD celebration, a liturgical service with ordained ministers Heidi Johnson, adjunct to campus ministries at Lee, and Christine Curley will take place in the Chapel on Thursday, March 14 at 10:40 a.m.

Johnson and Curley are married to Lee professors Dr. Aaron Johnson and Dr. Brian Peterson, respectively.

“Lee students, staff and faculty represent women from many diverse backgrounds that do extraordinary things in their everyday lives,” said Diette Ward, IWD chair and electronics resources librarian. “We want to celebrate the women on our campus and their amazing achievements. On IWD we recognize the global impact of women and hope to encourage our students to also make an impact.”

A reception for women faculty and staff will also be held from 4-5 p.m. on Wednesday evening.
