Lee Theatre to Present “Jack’s Tale”

News, Theatre

Lee Theatre will continue its season with the production of “Jack’s Tale,” a musical directed by Dr. Christine Williams, March 24-25 and March 30-April 1, in the Buzz Oates Blackbox Theatre, located in the Communication Arts Building.

Inspired directly by the mystical tales and folk music of Appalachia, “Jack’s Tale” follows the story of Jack on the quest to win the heart of the Old King’s Daughter and his encounters with mysterious characters like the Bluebeard Giants.

The book upon which the show is based was written by Scot Copeland. Paul Carrol Binkley wrote the music and collaborated with Copeland to write the lyrics. The show premiered for the first time at the Nashville Children’s Theatre in 2005.

“We are thrilled to be the next stop on the journey of this musical,” said Williams. “I saw it many years ago at the Nashville Children’s Theatre, and I am delighted to have the opportunity to work on this show and share it with our local community. The music is delightful, and it is sure to be a great time.”

Lee’s production of “Jack’s Tale” will feature a cast of six characters, with some actors doubling up on roles. This family-friendly show is about an hour and ten minutes in length.

The show will be performed on March 24 at 7:30 p.m., March 25 at 3 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., March 30 at 7:30 p.m., March 31 at 7 p.m., and April 1 at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.

Tickets will be available online on Eventbrite.com, or at Lee Theatre’s box office, located in the Communication Arts Building. The box office is open 4-6 p.m. during the week of the show and one hour prior to each performance.
