Lee Tax Prep Cancelled Today and Tomorrow

News

Due to inclement weather, Lee University’s tax assistance will be cancelled this Friday and Saturday, Feb. 14-15. This service will resume next Friday, Feb. 21 at 2:30 p.m.

The Lee University Department of Business is partnering with the Internal Revenue Service’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program to offer free tax preparation in the Walker Memorial Building,

IRS certified junior and senior accounting students will provide assistance in Room 101 from 2:30-5:30 p.m. on Fridays and 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturdays. The last day of filing tax returns through VITA at Lee is Saturday, April 12, 2014.

In its seventh year, the VITA program at Lee is a tax return preparation service for any taxpayer whose maximum gross annual income does not exceed $50,000.

“This free tax preparation service is to the advantage of many of our neighbors,” said Greg Della Franco, assistant professor of accounting at Lee University and coordinator of the VITA program on campus.

Della Franco added that returns will be filed electronically to the Internal Revenue Service, and refunds will be generated more quickly the sooner they are filed and also, more quickly than paper returns.

“Naturally, a refund will come back more quickly if the return is sent on, say, Feb. 2, instead of waiting until April 2,” said Della Franco.
