Lee Day to Take Place This Weekend
Lee University will host its annual Lee Day this Friday and Saturday, April 4-5. The weekend will be full of events and activities geared toward prospective students and their families.
The 30-hour spread of non-stop activities will include campus tours, early class selection, athletic events, music, and featured classes, along with informational sessions for parents about financial aid.
“This is the very best time to visit Lee,” said Danny Murray, chair of the Lee Day steering committee. “The entire campus is ‘on display,’ and students can even select classes for the fall semester.”
Among the features offered is “Lee U Spotlight” which takes place Friday evening at 6 p.m. This event will feature highlights of several campus musical ensembles, award-winning short films, and athletes and alumni stories.
Also on Friday afternoon, visitors can attend “Music in the Air” beginning at 3 p.m. featuring several of Lee’s musical ensembles that will perform in venues around campus. Dinner will be provided in the Deacon Jones Dining Hall for all attendees following the performances. A block party will begin at 8 p.m. with music, games and desserts for everyone.
Guests will have an opportunity to watch an alumni soccer match on Friday at 3 p.m. Prospective students will also have a chance to meet the coaches of Lee’s various athletic teams and get tryout information on Saturday at 9:30 a.m.
Students can meet representatives from Lee clubs and organizations and visit their booths on the pedestrian mall at 9:30 on Saturday morning.
“Major Discovery,” hosted by Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Debbie Murray, provides students with a panorama of Lee’s academic offerings and can help them decide on a major. This event will be held at 4 p.m. on Friday.
Lee Theatre will present Shakespeare’s “Much Ado About Nothing” on Friday evening at 8 in the Dixon Center. This comedic play combines elements of robust hilarity with more serious topics of honor, shame and court politics.
On Saturday there will be a special luncheon for high school students as well as a transfer student luncheon and an alumni luncheon all beginning at 12 p.m. “Life at Lee,” a light-hearted look at campus life, will be on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. followed by a cookout at 4 p.m.
The weekend will conclude with a worship rally on Saturday at 5 p.m. in the Conn Center featuring President Paul Conn, Voices of Lee and Lee’s chapel worship band. A drawing for eight scholarship awards will follow.
Local high school students, parents and youth groups are encouraged to attend and participate. Registration will begin at noon on Friday and will continue at 8 a.m. on Saturday.
