Lee Chorale to Present Fall Concert “Light”
The Lee University Chorale will present its fall concert, “Light…a new day dawning,” on Oct. 7, at 7:30 p.m., in Pangle Hall on Lee’s campus.
The concert will feature pieces that focus on the many facets of light. The theme was inspired by Dan Forrest’s new composition “Light Beyond Shadow” and Dolly Parton’s “Light of a Clear Blue Morning.” In addition to these works, Chorale will perform pieces by Thomas Tallis, J.S. Bach, and Elaine Hagenburg, along with other composers from various musical periods.
Dr. William Green, dean of the School of Music and director of Chorale, will conduct the concert. A string quartet from the Lee University Orchestra will join for the Forrest feature piece, and the concert will close with Chorale joined by members of the jazz ensemble in a rousing gospel spiritual “Shine the Light.”
“These pieces speak of the anticipation of coming out of a dark time and seeing the light of day, sort of a ‘light at the end of the tunnel’ idea,” said Green. “I think this concert will give hope of seeing the dawning of a new day. Other pieces in the concert speak of light in many different facets including the light that we find in Christ, and our own personal Christian light that shines to the world.”
The Lee University Chorale is an ensemble of highly motivated vocalists who are selected by audition. An emphasis is placed on the diversity and breadth of advanced, artistic choral literature. Chorale has been featured in performances with the Chattanooga Symphony, at Carnegie Hall, and throughout Europe.
The concert is free and open to the public.
The concert will also be available for livestream viewing, which can be found at https://leeu.live.
Pangle Hall is located on the corner of Church Street and Central Avenue.
Lee University remains dedicated to the health and safety of both the campus community and guests and will observe COVID-19 protocols based on CDC recommendations at the time of the performance.
