Alumni, News

Lee University graduate Micah Massey won a GRAMMY award along with Israel Houghton in the “Best Contemporary Christian Music Song” category for co-writing the song “Your Presence is Heaven.”

A 2009 graduate, Massey earned his bachelor’s in Biblical & Theological Studies. Since his graduation, Massey has been leading worship, writing songs and currently serves as the worship pastor at Free Chapel in Gainesville, Ga.

Regenerate Music Company, owned by Chris Garmon, also a Lee alum, published the GRAMMY-winning song. Regenerate has been pivotal in developing Massey’s career as a musician over the last seven years.

During his freshman year at Lee, Massey became the youngest chapel band leader in its history. Massey was also a member of the vocal ensemble Voices of Lee.

“Micah had a great sense of God’s presence and power, as well as the people he was leading in worship which is displayed in the songs he is now writing for the body of Christ to sing,” said Dr. Brad Moffett, associate professor of music and chapel band coordinator at Lee. “I am proud of his accomplishments and thank God for the time we had in ministry together.”
Celebrating music through the GRAMMY Awards for more than 50 years, The Recording Academy continues its rich legacy and ongoing growth as the premier outlet for honoring achievements in the recording arts and supporting the music community. The GRAMMYs are the only peer-presented award to honor artistic achievement, technical proficiency and overall excellence in the recording industry, without regard to album sales or chart position.
