Lee Alumnus Kevin Brooks receives TICUA award

Alumni, News

Tennessee Representative Kevin Brooks, a Lee University alumnus and former assistant to the university’s president, was awarded the Harold Bradley Legislative Leadership Award at the 57th Tennessee Independent Colleges and Universities Association’s (TICUA) annual meeting on Feb. 19.

The TICUA Board of Directors unanimously voted to honor Rep. Brooks for excellence in higher education policy. The award is the highest state level award for a House of Representative member given by the association.

This is a terrific recognition of Kevin’s talent and hard work as a Tennessee state legislator,” said Dr. Jerome Hammond, vice president of University Relations at Lee. “We think it’s pretty easy to understand why Lee University is proud to have Kevin an alumnus.”

Brooks has served as a state representative since 2007 and is recognized for his support and leadership of member institutions’ issues such as student aid, lottery scholarships, teacher education and university governance.

“Representative Brooks has proven his dedication to college students, especially private college students, and ensuring that the financial resources are available to allow them to concentrate on their studies,” President of TICUA Dr. Claude O. Pressnell said. “Brooks has worked at the State House to ensure that student aid programs such as the Lottery Scholarship and the Tennessee Student Assistance Award are available to make college affordable for all Tennesseans.”

TICUA engages Tennessee’s private, non-profit colleges and universities to work collaboratively in areas of public policy, cost containment, and professional development to serve the State and its citizens.
