Lady Flames to Host 5th Annual Volley for the Cure

News

The Lee University Lady Flames volleyball team will host Volley for the Cure on Friday, Nov. 4 at 7:00 p.m. in the Walker Arena. The match against Brenau University will be a part of Lee’s homecoming weekend festivities.

The goal of the event is to help raise awareness for breast cancer as well as raise money for the Mary Ellen Locher Foundation of Chattanooga. The foundation grants scholarships to college students with a parent who is affected by breast cancer. This year’s recipient will be given the scholarship between games on Friday evening.

This volleyball match will also be the team’s senior night, when seven graduating players will be recognized for their contribution to the team. It will be a poignant night for senior setter Gretchen Higdon, who was awarded the first Volley for the Cure scholarship in 2007.

Volley for the Cure t-shirts are $5 and can be purchased before chapel in the Conn Center lobby or at the DeVos Recreation Center on Lee University’s campus.

This year Volley for the Cure once again partneredwith the Plastic Surgery Clinic of Cleveland for the “flamingo flocking” fundraiser in the weeks before the event. By request, the clinic staff can “flock” a friend’s yard for a day with up to 75 plastic pink flamingos.

The third annual luncheon for breast cancer survivors will be held at noon on Thursday, Nov. 3, in the Devos Recreation Center. Karen Mills, Cleveland native and popular stand-up comedian, will be the featured speaker for the event.

On Friday afternoon before the Lady Flames’ match, there will be a silent auction beginning at 4:00 p.m. and the high school all-stars game at 4:30 p.m.

In the lobby of Walker Arena before and during the Lady Flames’ match, Lee’s Greek letter society, Zeta Chi Lambda will host a Pink Party, with fun activities for all ages.
