Lady Flames to Hold Volley for a Cure

Athletics, News

Volley for a Cure set 2022The Lee University Lady Flames volleyball team will host the 16th annual Volley for a Cure match as part of Lee’s Homecoming celebrations. The team will face off against Valdosta State University on Friday, Nov. 3, at 7 p.m. in the Paul Dana Walker Arena.

The event’s goal is to help raise awareness for breast cancer and raise money for a scholarship for a Lee student who is a family member of someone who has been impacted by breast cancer. This year, the fundraising goal is $3,000.

“The Volley for a Cure match is one that carries such deep meaning for me,” said Christa Fabre, Lady Flames volleyball coach. “It was a big part of my experience here as a student athlete, and I was able to see the impact the scholarship was able to have on people who were deeply impacted by breast cancer. Wendy Higdon, the mother of one of my teammates who received the scholarship, was one of the most dynamic, joyful women I have ever known, and she is a big reason why I desire to carry on the tradition of the match.”

To raise money, the volleyball team is selling pink T-shirts. One hundred percent of the profits will go to the scholarship. Shirts are available for $10 each.

The Lady Flames are partnering with Phi Chi Gamma, a women’s social service club at Lee, to raise money. Members of the club will sell T-Shirts, as well as host the “Pink Party” during the game, which will include face painting, games, baked goods, and cotton candy.

For more information about Volley for a Cure or to contribute, email Fabre at [email protected] or call (423) 614-3775. T-shirts will be available for purchase at the game or can be bought from the volleyball players and members of Phi Chi Gamma prior to the match.
