On Tuesday, March 15 at 7:30 p.m. in the Lee Chapel, Ladies of Lee will perform its spring concert “Songs for the Soul” as part of the choir’s year-long 50th anniversary celebration.

The evening, according to Ladies of Lee Director Dr. Jonathan Rodgers, will be a night of worship featuring sacred music in a variety of styles. The program includes important works in the 50-year history of Ladies of Lee, including “Shut De Do” and “I Will Follow Thee.” In addition, the choir will present settings of famous hymns, American sacred folk songs, spirituals and gospel songs – works by Rodgers, Stroope, Forrest, Hogan, and Rutter.

Former Ladies of Lee conductor and current Professor of Voice Dr. Andrea Dismukes will be a highlighted soloist during the concert. Students from Lee’s sign language program will be featured with the choir, and a small ensemble made up of former Ladies of Lee singers will return for a special performance after a 15-year hiatus.

“We are really looking forward to this night of worship,” said Rodgers. “Our desire is that those in attendance would find their souls nourished and encouraged by being in God’s presence through the aid of great music and beautiful voices.”

Ladies of Lee, composed of 53 women, travels throughout the southeastern United States under the direction of Rodgers and features a repertoire reflecting a diverse range of styles.

The choir is in the process of preparing for a summer mission tour to India, and during the spring concert the audience will have an opportunity to hear about their plans. The choir is partnered with Rahab’s Rope, a ministry devoted to women and children at risk or affected by the human trafficking industry in India.

The concert is free, non-ticketed, and open to the public. Doors will open at 7 p.m.
