On Tuesday, April 14 at 7:30 p.m. in the Lee Chapel, the Ladies of Lee will present their spring concert. Titled “The Splendor of Holiness: A Night of Worship with the Ladies of Lee,” the event will be a time of worship through choral music.
According to Dr. Jonathan Rodgers, director of Ladies of Lee, there will be a lineup of special guests from across the Lee campus, including Dr. Andrea Dismukes, professor of music at Lee, Lee’s Evangelistic Singers (EVS) band, and Unity Dance Troupe.
Dismukes has made numerous appearances in opera, oratorio, chamber music and traditional solo recital venues. She performs regularly with the Choral Arts of Chattanooga. The EVS band, led by musical director Victor Johnson, performs with the singers, who strive to seek God through the art of worship within the avenue of spirituals, and traditional and contemporary black gospel music. Unity, a Christian dance troupe founded in 2010 by Alexis Ziarkowski and based in Cleveland, Tennessee, seeks to expose the heart of God through dance.
A bagpiper and other musicians from Lee’s School of Music will also perform.
The program will feature sacred music from a variety of traditions, including hymns, gospel songs, spirituals, and contemporary worship. Works by Kari Jobe, Keith and Kristyn Getty, Dan Forrest, Z. Randall Stroope, and John Rutter will be performed.
“We are looking forward to a special evening of worship that involves collaboration with very talented individuals from our campus and community,” said Rodgers. “We really hope to create a feast for the eyes and ears and that, as a result, the audience will be uplifted and encouraged by this concert through great music and the creative arts.”
Ladies of Lee, composed of 46 women, travels throughout the southeastern United States under the direction of Rodgers and features a repertoire reflecting a diverse range of styles.
