Lee University presented Alex Kendrick the Honorary Alum of the Year Award at last Saturday’s virtual Homecoming celebrations.

“The Honorary Alumnus of the Year award goes to someone who has demonstrated achievement in their field or craft, and someone we really wish had attended Lee,” said Dr. Brad Moffett, vice president for university relations. “Alex Kendrick is the perfect choice for this year’s award. He models many of the attributes we want our students to strive for in life, and we are honored he has accepted this award from us.”

Kendrick is an American film writer, producer, director and actor. He is notably known for directing and starring in his award winning and faith-based films, including “Facing the Giants,” “War Room,” “Overcomer,” “Courageous,” and “Fireproof.”

“Fireproof” won Best Feature at the 2009 San Antonio Independent Christian Film Festival, as well as the Epiphany Prize at the Movieguide Awards in Los Angeles. “Courageous” won Best Feature Film and the Jubilee Award at the 2012 San Antonio Independent Christian Film Festival and was another winner of the Epiphany Prize. “Courageous” was also the first winner of the K-Love Movie Impact Award and the first winner of the Dove Award for Movie of the Year in 2013.

He has co-authored several best-selling books with his brother, Stephen Kendrick, including “The Love Dare,” which appeared for 131 weeks on The New York Times Paperback Advice & Miscellaneous Best Seller list. His books, “The Resolution for Men” and “The Battle Plan for Prayer,” again with his brother, also appeared on the New York Times Best Seller list.

“What an honor to be considered for this award,” said Alex Kendrick during his acceptance speech at Homecoming. “It is a joy to be a part of the alumni family at Lee, even on an honorary basis.”

Alex Kendrick graduated from Kennesaw State University with a Bachelor of Science in communications. He also attended Bryan College in Dayton, Tennessee, and the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary for additional study. He served on the ministerial staff at Sherwood Baptist in Albany, Georgia, for 15 years.
