Kasper to Continue “Sassy Science Series” at Public Library
Lee University’s Dr. Sherry Kasper will continue the spring session of the Cleveland Bradley County Public Library’s “Sassy Science Series” with a talk titled “Matters of the Heart.” The program will take place on Tuesday, Feb. 10, at noon and will include a 40-minute presentation followed by a 20-minute Q&A session.

“I am excited to engage with the Cleveland community through the public library,” said Kasper, Lee University professor of biology. “The heart is a topic that I love, and I feel passionately is timely to the health of many.”
In honor of American Heart Month, this informative talk will highlight the heart and its structure, explaining how the organ works, what can go wrong, and what prevents it from functioning properly. Kasper will expand upon these ideas by presenting several types of cardiovascular disease, their treatment, and what preventive measures one can take to help aid their heart health.
Kasper joined Lee’s Department of Natural Sciences and Mathematics, now known as the Department of Natural Sciences, in 2007 and teaches courses such as Principles of Biology II and Anatomy & Physiology. She is the principal investigator for iMASS (integrated Mathematics and Science Scholars), a program funded by a five-year grant from the National Science Foundation (NSF), which seeks to increase STEM-related career development and partnerships with local STEM industry. She also participates in the department’s cross-cultural trip to Huehuetenango, Guatemala, where students help provide medical care under the mentorship of doctors, nurses, and dentists.
“We’re excited to welcome Dr. Kasper to continue the spring Sassy Science Series,” said Kathy Davini, adult programming coordinator at the Cleveland Bradley County Public Library. “This series is designed to make science engaging and accessible, and our partnership with Lee University allows us to offer high-quality programs to the community.”
The event is free and open to the public and will be held in the Flex Room of the Cleveland Bradley County Public Library, located at the corner of Church Street and 8th Street.
