International Women's Day to be Celebrated at Lee

Lee University’s Cultural Diversity Committee will celebrate International Women’s Day (IWD) on March 4 and 5. This year’s theme is, “Inspiring Change.”
IWD provides an opportunity for students to join with the global community and recognize the accomplishments and contributions of women to society. It was first observed on Lee’s campus in 2010.
On this day, thousands of events occur worldwide to mark the economic, political and social achievements of women.
According to internationalwomensday.com, “IWD calls for challenging the status quo for women’s equality and vigilance inspiring positive change. The vast array of communication channels, supportive spokespeople, equality research, campaigns and corporate responsibility initiatives means everyone can be an advocate inspiring change for women’s advancement.”
On Tuesday, March 4, Mrs. Darlia Conn will kick off IWD by speaking during chapel in the Conn Center at 10:40 a.m.
Conn is an adjunct member of the piano faculty at Lee University. She earned a master’s of music in accompanying and coaching, studying with Stephen Dubberly, at the University of Tennessee at Knoxville in 1995. She earned her bachelor’s in piano performance from Lee in 1977.
Aside from music, Conn focuses her activities on her family, among which are three children, their spouses, ten grandchildren, and her various duties as First Lady of Lee University.
There will be a reception honoring the women of Lee University Wednesday afternoon.
