International Pianist Chongxiao Liu to Present Guest Recital

Lee University’s School of Music will welcome pianist Chongxiao Liu and his student, Yuwei Liu, from the Wuhan Conservatory of Music for a guest recital on Wednesday, Feb. 25, at 7:30 p.m. in Squires Recital Hall, located in the Humanities Center on Lee’s campus.  
 
“We are excited to welcome Professor Liu and Yuwei Liu to campus as part of an ongoing commitment to international academic exchange,” said Dr. Muen Wei, assistant professor of piano at Lee University. “This event celebrates not only outstanding pianism, but also the importance of mentorship and global collaboration in music education.”  
 
The program features works by Haydn, Debussy, MacDowell, and Granados, offering a broad stylistic range from classical to early 20th-century repertoire. 
 
“The upcoming guest recital is presented as an academic exchange between China and America, highlighting artistic collaboration and pedagogy across institutions,” said Wei. “The performance reflects shared traditions in piano education while encouraging international artistic dialogue.” 
 

Yuwei Liu

Chongxiao Liu is an associate professor of piano and director of the middle school division at the Wuhan Conservatory, located in China. He has taught masterclasses and lectures worldwide and served as a judge for numerous piano competitions. The Washington Post praised his recordings of works by Liszt, Brahms, and Schubert, noting his “marvels of variation technique, down to the finest detail.” 
 
Professor Liu has given concerts throughout Asia, Europe, and the United States, including performances in Russia, Germany, Italy, France, Bulgaria, South Korea, and Singapore. He has also appeared as a soloist with the China Philharmonic Orchestra, Beijing Film Orchestra, and Qingdao Opera and Dance Theatre Symphony Orchestra. 
 
Professor Liu received his Master of Music and Bachelor of Music from the China Conservatory of Music and later continued his artistic training at the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory under Pavel Nersessian. 
 
In addition to the recital, Chongxiao Liu will present a masterclass on Tuesday, Feb. 24, at 4:15 p.m., offering students and audiences insight into his pedagogical approach.
