Jessica Huff, a junior nursing major at Lee University, was recently awarded the Nurse Corps Scholarship.

“The effort Jessica puts into her coursework and career choice demonstrates her motivation and intent to be a nurse,” said Amy Blake, associate lecturer in nursing at Lee. “Her heart for the underserved is evident by her life choices and where she spends her time, by serving the less educated and the under-resourced. She has chosen a career to prepare herself to serve the underserved, whether it be across the street or across the seas.”

The Nurse Corps Scholarship pays full-tuition expenses for its recipients and provides them with a living stipend while they work on their degree. To qualify, students must agree to work in an underserved area for two years after graduating from their nursing program.

At Lee, Huff serves as president of Mu Kappa, a club for missionary and third culture kids. She is also involved in Asian Council, Adopt-a-Grandparent, and Nurses Christian Fellowship. Upon graduation in May 2024, she plans to work in an underprivileged area of the United States.

“This scholarship has been a really big blessing for me, because I wanted to graduate debt free since I’m planning on being on the mission field long-term,” said Huff. “This opportunity has been a gift from the Lord because it opens a lot of potential for that. The opportunity to work in an underserved community after graduation is also a blessing, because I’m sure I’ll learn a lot from that.”

The Nurse Corps awards scholarships and loan repayment to nurses, nursing students, and nurse faculty. Through these programs, it builds healthier communities in areas of the greatest need across the country.
