On Sunday, Oct. 25 at 5 p.m., a group of 30 Lee University students officially ended the world’s longest Ultimate Frisbee game after 90 hours of play, setting a new world record.

Why would they do this, you ask? To raise money for the 7-16 Freedom Fund of Chattanooga, which helps the families of the victims of the July 16 Chattanooga shooting.

Throughout the four-day event, they raised over $10,000, according to Derek Murray, senior business administration major at Lee. Murray organized the event along with fellow senior, Caleb Wade.

“As difficult as it was at times, and as much sleep as Caleb and I lost during the planning process, it was worth every second,” said Murray. “It was awesome to see these students from all over campus come together and work hard for a cause they believed in. We know that there were numerous fundraisers before us, but we still wanted to do our part.”

The first 84 hours of the game were played on Lee’s Souther Field, and the last 6 were played in AT&T Field in Chattanooga. Two teams of 15 players played the full 90 hours, substituting in and out of the game as well as in and out of ice baths. According to Murray, the players set up tents and made their own version of an “Olympic Village” around the fields.
