Honor Band 2014 to Take Place this Week

News

On Thursday, Nov. 13, 82 high school students representing 29 schools from six states will arrive at Lee University for Honor Band 2014. This is the 14th year that Lee has hosted the Honor Band, which will be conducted by Dr. David Holsinger, a well-respected composer and conductor, professor of music at Lee, and director of the Lee University Wind Ensemble.

The students were selected for the Honor Band based upon information submitted by the students in addition to recommendations from their individual band directors. The students will begin rehearsing Thursday evening, and rehearsals will continue through Saturday morning. The weekend will culminate with a concert given by the Honor Band on Saturday, Nov. 15, at 1:30 p.m. in the Conn Center.

“The honor band is always a great event to host,” said Winona Holsinger, director of instrumental projects at Lee. “The students who participate are great guests to have on campus. They have come to play music and that is what they do.”

On Friday evening, Nov. 14, Lee University’s Symphonic Band, Jazz Ensemble, and Wind Ensemble will present a concert for the honor band participants at 7:30 p.m. in the Conn Center.

The performances are free, and the public is invited to attend the Friday evening and Saturday afternoon concerts.
