Historic Fort Hill Cemetery Tours This Sunday

News

On Sunday, Oct. 28 from 4-7 p.m. Lee University senior history
majors will lead tours through the historic Fort Hill Cemetery,
introducing the community to several fascinating Clevelanders and
Bradley Countians from the 19th century.

Students and local performers dressed in period costume will
bring these early residents to life and transport participants back
over a century for a few brief moments that afternoon.

This year’s historical characters include John and Myra Inman
Carter, C.L. and Isabella Tucker Hardwick, Robert and Ann McNelley,
Captain John Traynor, Levi and Elizabeth Shugart, Liv and Laura
Shugart, Caswell and Elizabeth Lea, Captain William and Julia Knox
McKamy, Cincinnatus Apperson, Francis Marion Gibson and Joseph
Taylor.

The event is sponsored by Lee University’s Department of
History, Political Science, and Humanities, the Bradley County
Historical and Genealogical Society, and Cleveland State Community
College’s history faculty.

The cost of the tour is $5 per person. Parking and shuttle will
be provided at the Boys and Girls Club of Cleveland. Proceeds will
go to the William Snell Scholarship Fund at Lee University.
