Graduate Panels to Take Place Tuesday and Friday
Lee’s McNair Scholars Program will host a Graduate Student Panel on Tuesday, Sept. 27, at 4:15 p.m. and a Graduate Dean Panel on Friday, Sept. 30, at 3:30 p.m.
Each panel will take place virtually, feature three panelists, and cover topics such as general graduate school application process, available funding for specific programs, graduate school life hacks, “a day in the life” of a graduate student, and how to develop a scholarly identity while studying and conducting research.
“We are very excited to host this virtual panel each year because it provides an invaluable insight for students to capture the process of successfully applying, preparing, and matriculating into a desired graduate school program,” said Dr. Kevin Ung, director of the McNair Scholars Program.
Speakers were chosen based on survey results of student interest.
Graduate Student Panel speakers include Denicia Aragon, pursuing her Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in psychology at the University of Oregon; Valerie Fong, pursuing her PhD in applied mathematics at the University of California, Davis; and Noah Turner, pursuing his PhD in criminal justice at Michigan State University.
For the Graduate Dean Panel, panelists include Dr. Peter Harries, dean of the graduate school at North Carolina State University; Dr. Raymond Herrera, associate dean of the graduate school at Washington State University; and Dr. Kate McAnulty, associate dean of graduate student affairs at the University of North Carolina.
In partnership with Lee’s Graduate Admissions office, McNair promotes several graduate degree options such as the Master of Business Administration (MBA), Master of Science in Athletic Training, Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP), and PhD in Marriage and Family Therapy.
“We are thrilled to present a diversity of options for students locally and globally to contemplate how the Lord will utilize their call to advanced educational and research training to impact their communities,” said Ung.
McNair will also host a virtual panel with summer research directors in November.
The McNair Scholars Program is designed to support talented, highly motivated scholars as they strive to achieve their educational goals. It seeks to provide scholars with a foundation for graduate school success through seminars, workshops, campus visits, research experience, and academic conferences.
“While this panel series is rooted and inspired by McNair students, we invite all students to join us for this occasion!” said Ung.
