The former United States Attorney General, Alberto Gonzales, will speak in the Lee University Dixon Center morning chapel service Thursday, Oct. 6 at 10:40 a.m.

Gonzales served as the 80th U.S. Attorney General under appointment by President George W. Bush. Prior to that post he served on the Texas Supreme Court and as a White House Counsel.

The grandson of a Mexican immigrant, Gonzales earned his juris doctor degree at Harvard Law School after receiving his bachelor’s degree from Rice University.

“We are pleased to host Judge Gonzales for this anticipated chapel,” said Dr. Jerome Hammond, vice president for University Relations. “He is a legitimate voice on some of the most important topics being debated today.”

In his recent memoir, “True Faith and Allegiance,” Gonzales opens up about his 2007 resignation as Attorney General and about his controversial decisions regarding CIA surveillance following the attacks on Sept. 11, 2001.

Gonzales currently serves as dean of Belmont’s College of Law in Nashville, Tennessee.

After the event Gonzales will be available to sign copies of “True Faith and Allegiance.”

Everyone is welcome to attend. Seating is first come, first served.
