The free tax preparation offered by Lee University’s Department of Business and the Internal Revenue Service is ending Saturday, April 14. Until then, the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program occurs every Friday and Saturday in the Walker Memorial Building on Lee’s campus.

IRS certified junior and senior accounting students will provide assistance at the Walker Memorial Building in Room 108 from 2:30-5:30 p.m. on Fridays and 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturdays. They will not be filing midnight returns.

In its sixth year, the VITA program at Lee is a tax return preparation service for any taxpayer whose maximum gross annual income does not exceed $50,000.

“Because of the affect the economy is having on many, taxpayers will find this FREE tax preparation service to their advantage,” said Greg Della Franco, Assistant Professor of Accounting at Lee University and coordinator of the VITA program on campus.

Della Franco also added that returns will be filed electronically to the Internal Revenue Service and refunds will be generated more quickly the earlier they are filed.

“Naturally, a refund will come back more quickly if the return is sent on, say, March 9, instead of waiting until April 14,” said Della Franco.
