“Food Lion Feeds” Provides Grant for Food Bank

Lee University has received $1,500 from the Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation to help feed students in their time of need. Lee used the gift to contribute stock to its on-campus food bank.
“It has been an absolute pleasure participating in providing such a meaningful service to Lee University’s community,” said Megan Khan, an AmeriCorps VISTA worker who was instrumental in securing the grant. “On behalf of Lee University’s students, we are highly grateful for the Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation’s generosity.”
Located at Lee’s Leonard Center, the Food Bank is a resource available to Lee students who are in need and are not on a meal plan. On average the Food Bank provides food to 200 students per month.
“The food bank has been really helpful to me because I haven’t had a meal plan since my freshman year,” said Emily Courtney, a senior business management major at Lee. “I haven’t been able to work as much as I used to, so being able to use the food bank helps when I don’t have money for groceries.”
The Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation is committed to supporting families facing food insecurity across its 10-state footprint. Established in 2001, the foundation provides financial support for programs and organizations dedicated to feeding local neighbors in the communities it serves. Since its inception, the foundation has awarded nearly $17 million in grants.
