Fly-Tying, Fly-Casting Clinic to Take Place Saturday

News

Fly Fishing PicThe Lee University Fly Fishing Program is partnering with Fly Fisher International’s (FFI) Southeastern Council to provide a fly-tying and fly-casting clinic at Lee’s School of Business on Saturday, Oct. 28 from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

According to Dr. Brian DeLoach, FFI-certified master instructor and event coordinator, the fly-tying event will bring together some of the region’s most skilled fly-tying experts and will host representatives from fly shops and major tackle manufacturers.

“At its core, however, the King Fisher Classic is dedicated to education and fostering relationships, reflecting the fundamental values of Lee University’s fly-fishing program,” said DeLoach. “We are excited to see a strong turnout from the Lee community this Saturday.”

This event is open to any person interested in fly fishing or fly-tying. Skilled fly tiers and designers will demonstrate their work with hooks, tubes, feathers, hair, fur, and synthetics. There will also be demonstrations on casting and tying every genre of flies. The clinic is an opportunity to learn how to tie and cast with some of the best anglers in the region.

There will be food available as well as a silent auction for guide trips, fly fishing gear, tying tools, and art sponsored by tackle manufacturers, regional fly shops, and guides.

Lee University began its fishing program in the spring of 2014 in conjunction with the International Federation of Fly Fishers (IFFF). The team is currently led by Dr. Guy Deloach, associate professor of business at Lee.

The event is free, open to the public, and no registration or prior experience is required.
