Of the 15 new faculty welcomed at Lee University this semester, five are joining the Department of Natural Sciences and Mathematics.

Assistant Professor of Biology and Health Sciences Dr. Ben Christmann comes to Lee after four years as a postdoctoral fellow with the University of Alabama’s Department of Medicine. Prior to that, Christmann worked as a research technician at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Christmann earned his PhD at St. Louis University and a BA at Covenant College.

Dr. John Hearn joins Lee as an assistant professor of chemistry. Before his arrival to Lee, he was a chemist at the Air Force Research Laboratory at Tyndall Air Force Base. While a student, Hearn served as a biochemistry laboratory technician and a graduate teaching assistant in chemistry. He is a member of the American Association for the Advancement of Science.

Hearn earned his PhD at the University of Georgia and his BA at Asbury College.

Amanda Jones is hired as a lecturer in mathematics. She is a 2009 graduate of Lee and recipient of the Mathematics Education Award. She taught algebra and geometry at Cleveland High School for two years and was a graduate teaching assistant in calculus while at Clemson University. Most recently, she was the graduate teacher of record at Clemson in Introduction to Mathematical Analysis.

Jones earned her MS at Clemson and her BS from Lee.

Assistant Professor of Mathematics Dr. Jeneva Moseley, also a Lee alumnus, has been a math lecturer at the University of Tennessee since 2006. During this time, she also taught in-service mathematics seminars for public school teachers, high school math, and middle school math at a Navajo boarding school. She has served as adjunct faculty at Pellissippi State, Cleveland State and Tennessee Wesleyan College.

Moseley earned her PhD and MM at the University of Tennessee at Knoxville and a BA at Lee.

Dr. David Pigg, assistant professor of physics, has been a post-doctoral research scientist at the University of Tennessee at Knoxville – Oak Ridge National Lab since September 2012. His specialization is in computational physics.

Pigg earned his PhD at Vanderbilt University and his BS at Mississippi State University.
