Fall U-Church Guests Announced

News

Lee University’s U-Church series will offer another eclectic line-up for this fall, providing students with the opportunity to worship together in an atypical chapel format. The line-up includes Desperation Band on Sept. 14, Ballet Magnificat! on Oct. 26, and the student-led service “An Evening of Worship” on Nov. 16.

Opening the season on Sept.14 will be Desperation Band, part of the worship ministry of New Life Church in Colorado Springs, Colo. Formed in 2001 and led by the church’s youth worship pastor Jon Egan, the group leads worship during regular weekly services and at concerts and churches around the country.

“The Desperation Band has always been and always will be about the presence of God. We exist to bring Him glory and reveal His truth to a broken world,” Egan explains. “If we know who He is, we know who we are. If we know who we are, we can live as God meant us to live.”

Desperation Band is the writing genius behind many well-known Christian worship songs, including “Rescue,” “I Am Free,” “My Savior Lives,” “Overcome,” and more. Every summer, the band leads worship at New Life’s Desperation Conference for high school and college age students.

Returning for the Oct. 26 U-Church service is the professional Christian ballet company Ballet Magnificat!, founded in 1986. The company has toured both nationally and internationally, visiting over 25 countries.

Ballet Magnificat!’s mission statement is “to present the gospel of Jesus Christ to the widest possible audience through the medium of dance, dance/drama, and personal witness.”

“There is no denying the emotional power of this company,” The Washington Post says of Ballet Magnificat!. “These dancers have the kind of lit-from-within presence rarely seen outside the premier companies.”

On Nov. 16, U-Church will present, for the 11th time, “An Evening of Worship,” a student-led service that leads up to a time of communion for all that attend.

U-Church is a free, non-ticketed event for students, alumni and the community. All services will take place at 7:30 p.m. in the Conn Center. Seating is first come, first serve.

Childcare is available for all who attend. Please contact Christie Wyatt at [email protected] for more information.
