Lee University School of Music will present compositions by Lee faculty Alan Elkins and John Wykoff in recital on Wednesday, Feb. 19 at 7:30 p.m. in the Squires Recital Hall, located in the Humanities Center.

Elkins, viola, will perform his original pieces, “Untitled Rag,” “Reconciled,” and “When June is Past, the Fading Rose,” among others. He will be accompanied by students, faculty and guest performers.

Wykoff will perform his originals “Rhapsody and Reason,” “Far Down the Ages Past,” and “Virtue” on the piano, among other works. He will be accompanied on two of his pieces by guest performer David Tahere.

Elkins, adjunct professor in Lee’s School of Music, earned his master’s in music composition from Bowling Green State University and his bachelor’s in viola performance from Florida State University. His composition teachers include Elainie Lillios, Burton Beerman, Mark Wingate and Jim David.

His works have been performed throughout the eastern United States, including performances by flautist Clark Barnes, the BGSU Steel Drum Ensemble, the BGSU Early Music Ensemble, and the Atlanta Chamber Players. As a violist, he has performed with orchestras and professional ensembles throughout the north Florida region, and, as an active proponent of new music, has premiered several solo and chamber works.

Wykoff, assistant professor of music at Lee, composer and music theorist, received his doctorate in music composition from the Graduate Center of the City University of New York, his master’s in music composition from the Aaron Copland School of Music, Queens College, and his bachelor’s in music and philosophy from Covenant College.

Wykoff has composed works for solo piano, small ensemble, voice, choir, orchestra and more. His chamber music has been performed by the International Contemporary Ensemble, Cygnus, Second Instrumental Unit, and the MIVOS Quartet, and his sacred music, including choral works and congregational song is sung in churches across the United States and in Canada.

The concert is free and open to the public.
