Dorman to Speak at Summer Commencement

Dr. Steve Dorman, president of Georgia College & State University (GC), will deliver the commencement address at Lee University’s summer commencement ceremony on Saturday, Aug. 2, in the Conn Center.

Dorman, a graduate of Lee, is an award-winning educator, a lifelong learner and a leader among educators of innovative thinking and teaching. He has taught both undergraduate and graduate students and has served in academic leadership roles at Texas A&M University and the University of Florida.

Since his arrival to GC in the fall of 2012, Dorman has initiated a campus-wide program prioritization project, a revitalized diversity plan and a restatement of the university’s brand platform. He has also endorsed a university-wide quality enhancement plan that articulated the campus’s commitment to a culture of engaged learning and teaching.

Prior to his GC presidency, Dorman served as a professor and dean of the College of Health and Human Performance at the University of Florida, where he oversaw faculty, staff and coordinated fundraising efforts.

Among other academic achievements, he earned Eta Sigma Gamma’s Honor Award for his contributions to the health sciences profession and the American School Health Association’s William Howe Award and National Health Educator of the Year.

Dorman earned a doctorate of philosophy in health education and a master’s degree in public health from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville and his bachelor’s degree in biology from Lee College.

Graduation exercises will begin on Friday, Aug. 1, with a hooding ceremony at 4 p.m. in the Lee Chapel, followed by the commissioning service at 6:30 p.m. in the Conn Center. Commencement will take place Saturday morning at 10:30.
