Dorm Wars to Take Place on Oct. 6
On Monday, Oct. 6, students from across the Lee University campus will come together at 7 p.m. in the Paul Dana Walker Arena to compete in Lee’s 32nd annual Dorm Wars.
Over 1,000 students and guests will file into Walker Arena to support residence hall representatives as they support various charities and compete in events designed by Lee’s Residential Life and Housing staff. These competitions have been designed to test competitors’ energy, skills, strategy, and speed.
“We’re so excited for Dorm Wars this year,” said Chris Gates, executive director of student life. “Our resident directors, resident assistants, and resident chaplains, along with all the students involved in decorations, intro dances, and team practices, have been working so hard and it’s going to be a night to remember. We encourage everyone to come out and support our dorms, as they battle to take home the coveted bragging rights of Dorm Wars Champions!”
This year the event lineup includes the annual shopping cart race and obstacle course, as well as a mystery event, different from those of previous years. Lee staff members will be on hand as officials and scorekeepers for the competition.
At the end of the competition, the coveted title of “Dorm Wars Champion” will be awarded to the residents of one female dorm and one male dorm.
“Dorm Wars is a great opportunity to foster community across campus and for students to represent where they live,” said Meredith Block, senior English literature major and a resident assistant. “The spirit of competition brings everyone together for a fun night!”
This year, each dorm has chosen to support a specific charity leading up to the event. The charities of the winning dorms will receive scheduled days of service throughout the academic year, sponsored by Lee.
“Instead of just a check, the charities are receiving consistent help and volunteers, which supports our institutional values of redemptive service and responsible citizenship,” said Gates. “We hope all students come to have fun but also see the greater good it does for our local community as well.”
Dorm Wars admission is free and open to the public. The event will also be available for live stream viewing at leeu.live.
