Dorm Wars 2023 Winners Announced
On Monday, Oct. 2, Lee University hosted its 30th annual Dorm Wars. Lee family and friends watched and cheered as the residence halls New Hughes and Hicks-Brinsfield, male; Cross-Tharp, traditional female; and Keeble-Dirksen, upperclassmen female; were crowned the 2023 champions.
“This was my first Dorm Wars, and I was blown away by how good of a job the Residential Life and Housing Team did with planning and implementing the event and by the investment of the entire Lee community,” said Rocky Walker, chair of Dorm Wars and director of Residential Life and Housing. “Dorm Wars helped me realize how blessed and thankful I am to be a part of Lee University!”
The annual Lee tradition allows students living on campus to engage in fun, physical competitions to benefit charitable organizations.
The night began with students and staff filing into Walker Arena to begin the night with intro dances. Various members of the dorms participated in choreographed dances to introduce their team and their dorm’s theme.
“From the faculty sponsors who dressed up and danced in the intro dances to the staff who volunteered to serve as officials, the Lee community really stepped up to provide a great experience for our students, and our students really stepped up to provide a great performance for the entire community!” said Walker.
The competitions began with a relay-style mystery event, which included a bean bag slingshot, puzzle building, and a sack race. Then, Dorm Wars continued with the shopping cart race and the traditional obstacle course race, ending with students jumping over a four-foot wall.
Through Dorm Wars, students were able to raise $1,075 for charity, and the funds will be split among the four winning teams’ service organization sponsors.
Second place winners in each category include residence halls Bowdle-O’Bannon, male; Atkins-Ellis, traditional female; and Livingston-East, upperclassmen female.
