On Sept. 16, Lee University’s Center for Responsible Citizenship (CRC) hosted its 12th Annual Constitution Day Quiz Bowl, welcoming 22 teams of regional high schoolers as they competed in their knowledge of the U.S. Constitution and its founding history. The Quiz Bowl was headlined with a speech by Lee alumnus Mayor Kevin Brooks. 

“Constitution Day kickstarts the CRC’s annual programming and is a great opportunity to bring together the entire community to commemorate and celebrate our founding institutions,” says CRC Director Thomas Pope. “Robust civic education is incredibly important these days.” 

This year the Quiz Bowl reached 100 high school students and teachers as well as 88 Lee undergraduate volunteers and alumni. The Quiz Bowl included several round-robin style elimination rounds and concluded in a championship round between teams from McCallie and Guardian, with the team from McCallie as the winner of the game.

“We were impressed with the dedication and skill exemplified by our participants this year,” said Audrey Haley, CRC’s program coordinator. “This was our highest attended and most polished quiz bowl since the event’s conception.” 

The Constitution Day Quiz Bowl was made possible thanks to the continued support of Lee’s Political Science program, the Jack Miller Center, the Daughters of the American Revolution, and members of the broader Cleveland community.

The annual Quiz Bowl is one of many programs offered by the CRC.
