Casey Cole, a second year Theology student in Lee’s Master of Arts in Biblical and Theology studies program, was recently awarded a student scholarship from the Evangelical Theological Society.

Cole was nominated for the scholarship by Assistant Professor of Old Testament Brian Peterson based upon her paper, titled, “Talking about Staying Silent: A Fresh Look at 1 Timothy 2:11-15,” which focuses on Paul’s notions of women’s roles in the church.

“When I read Casey’s paper and heard her presentation, I knew that she had the ability to be a successful scholar,” said Peterson.

The Evangelical Theological Society (ETS) is a group of scholars, teachers, pastors, students, and others dedicated to the oral exchange and written expression of theological thought and research. ETS is devoted to the inerrancy and inspiration of the Scriptures and the gospel of Jesus Christ.

“I am honored to be noted by such a respected society, especially in regards to current scholarship concerning women in the Church,” said Cole.

In an effort to diversify the backgrounds of their contributors, ETS recently began offering a scholarship for minorities and under-represented groups. Through this scholarship, Cole will be attending the national ETS conference in Baltimore this November.

The Society publishes an academic periodical featuring peer-reviewed articles, as well as extended book reviews, in the biblical and theological disciplines. ETS also holds national and regional meetings across the United States.
