On Friday, Dec. 15, Lee University will host Cleveland TUBACHRISTMAS at 7:30 p.m. in Pangle Hall on Lee’s campus. The event is open to participation from community members, middle schoolers, high schoolers, and college students.

“We will bring together tuba, euphonium, baritone, and sousaphone players of all ages to spread the Christmas spirit for Cleveland’s first TUBACHRISTMAS,” said Dr. Jesse McConnell, coordinator of the concert and instructor of tuba and euphonium at Lee.

The program will feature traditional Christmas music arranged by Alec Wilder, including songs such as “Angels We Have Heard on High,” “Deck the Halls,” “God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen,” “Joy to the World,” and “Jingle Bells.”

Dr. Mark Bailey, director of the Lee University Symphonic Band, will conduct the concert.

For those wishing to participate in the concert, registration will take place on Dec. 15, from 5-6 p.m. in the Pangle Hall lobby, and the participants will rehearse from 6-7 p.m. Participants will pay a $10 registration fee and a $20 fee for the music “Carols for a Merry TUBACHRISTMAS,” which will be theirs to keep after the concert.

All performers are asked to bring their own instruments and dress in bright, festive colors.

This is the 50th year of TUBACHRISTMAS concerts and events, which are presented throughout the world.

TUBACHRISTMAS concerts are presented with permission from the Harvey Phillips Foundation, Inc., a not-for-profit foundation incorporated in the state of New York and dedicated to developing, expanding, and preserving the music arts. The foundation focuses special attention on musical instruments not ordinarily the object of other support and facilitates its goals by providing scholarship assistance to selected established institutions that offer academic and music performance training.

This concert is free, non-ticketed, and open to the public.
